When you think of self-care, what comes to mind?
Do you think about massages, mani pedis, and bubble baths? Those things are all great, but to me, those things are not truly self-care.
Self-care is about taking care of your mental health and your mind.
If the voice in your mind is constantly complaining, worrying, or criticizing you, it doesn’t matter how many bubble baths you take – you will still be miserable.
Your emotions are caused by your thoughts.
If you want to feel better, you need to be thinking different thoughts and most of us don’t know how to do that.
We have no idea how to change our thoughts.
We think that our thoughts are just observations of reality and that they just appear in our minds so we don’t know how to change them.
If you’d like to learn how to change your thoughts, there are a lot of different ways to go about doing that.
Maybe you get a good therapist or maybe you read books like Loving What Is by Byron Katie or Take Back Your Brain by Kara Loewentheil.
Maybe you listen to one of the many amazing podcasts that can help you with this. My two favorites are The Life Coach School Podcast by Brooke Castillo and Better Than Happy by Jody Moore.
Get all of the massages and mani pedis you want, but also learn how to take a look at your mind and change the thoughts that are making you so miserable.
That is what will truly improve your life, and that is self-care.
