I’ve always been an overachiever, and I like to set crazy goals like paying off $127,000 of debt in 4 years (done), moving across the country just because we can (done), and going on an around the world cruise even though I get seasick (on my bucket list). But lately I’ve been feeling like I need a little breathing room.

For 2023, my word of the year is self-compassion. Colossians 3:12 says “clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Most of us are good at being kind to other people (at least most of the time!), but how often do we show compassion and patience toward ourselves?

My only goal for this year is to practice self-compassion by investing time and money into things that benefit my mental and emotional health.

What does this look like?

I started virtual therapy via Talkspace.  If you’re looking for inexpensive (and covered by many insurance companies), convenient, and flexible therapy, Talkspace is a great option. They offer video-based therapy, live chats, or written messaging.  The written option is nice to have if you’re discussing a sensitive topic that you might feel more comfortable talking about in writing vs. in-person.

I also joined Jody Moore’s amazing life coaching program Be Bold.  I am so glad I did this – I can’t even begin to describe what a difference this has been making in my life.

Jody has helped me to manage anxiety better, have better relationships, have more compassion for myself and other people, process emotions, and change the thoughts that often keep me stuck. If you’re interested in learning more, Jody has a free podcast called Better Than Happy, and of course, it’s amazing!

Lastly, I finally signed up for an Audible subscription. Each month, I’ll be listening to one audiobook that will help me to practice self-compassion.  So far, I’ve listened to:
